West Michigan Church Focuses on Student Sponsorship

Family Church, located in Holland, MI, hosted its annual Family Church Day where all their campuses joined together at an outdoor venue to worship the one, true living God. Over 3,000 people were in attendance at the service. Family Church dedicated time during the service to highlight the work of Helping Kenya Kids and encourage families to sponsor a student.

Sponsoring a student through the Helping Kenya Kids program for just $35/month has a profound impact on their lives. This modest contribution covers essential items for your sponsored student providing not only tuition but also supplies, books and nutritious meals at a Christian school. The ripple effect of your sponsorship extends beyond the classroom. Students learn about the HOPE of Jesus.

Your support plays a pivotal role in equipping the student with an education, empowering a young mind and heart with the teachings of Jesus, and contributing to the overall well-being of the sponsored student and their families.

There are currently just under 300 students that need sponsorship!

National Director, Special Ministries

Director’s Report - Summer 2024

  • Our Pastoral Training program aims to provide leadership and direction to our pastors through a Christ-centered ministry. The program is dedicated to uniting pastors and equipping them for servant leadership in their homes, churches, and communities.

Every month, we offer ongoing biblical training to the pastors and assistant pastors at our Hope Centers. This training equips them with knowledge and skills to effectively manage and run their local churches. The program provides our pastors with diverse knowledge on how to:

    1. Ensure growth in their churches

    2. Make disciples in their community

    3. Spread the gospel of Jesus Christ

As Proverbs 9:9 states, "Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning."

Through this program, we see this scripture in action as our pastors continually grow in wisdom and understanding.

The generous support we receive enables our pastors to participate in monthly training sessions that foster spiritual growth and empowerment. As a result, they are better prepared to deliver quality messages about Christ to their congregations.

  • Our school programs are continuing well. Students have just begun their half-term break after a vigorous month in the school calendar. We are grateful that our teachers are doing tremendous work teaching and nurturing student leaders. According to our national government's education guidelines, this term is meant for competitions at the local level before proceeding to national levels.

Although our children are still young, circular athletic competitions are taking place where schools practice at their own pace, progressing to the county level and later to championships.

Our Osegel Primary School participated in the county-level athletic games, and they managed to advance some of their learners to the national level. We really appreciate our teachers for their outstanding efforts in ensuring that, apart from academic excellence, our learners are also able to use their God-given talents to prosper athletically.

  • In June 2024, Kenya experienced significant social unrest as anti-government demonstrations swept across the country. Large numbers of youth took to the streets to protest against the 2024 Finance Bill, which proposed new taxes that were seen as unfavorable to both Kenyan citizens and foreign investors.

The demonstrations caused widespread destruction of property and, tragically, resulted in loss of life. Reports indicate that at least 13 demonstrators and bystanders were killed, with hundreds more suffering injuries.

In response to the mounting pressure and civil unrest, President William Ruto made two significant decisions:

    1. He announced that he would not sign the controversial 2024 Finance Bill.

    2. He dismissed his entire cabinet of ministers (secretaries)

  • The Kimelok community has been actively supporting their teachers in environmental conservation efforts, particularly through tree planting initiatives within the school compound. This project, which was initially started by Kimelok teachers, has had a significant impact on the community, helping them recognize the importance of conservation.

In a collaborative effort, the community members, teachers, and students successfully planted 300 new trees in the school compound. Furthermore, each parent has taken on the responsibility of caring for these saplings to ensure their maturity.

The success of this conservation project has been greatly enhanced by the generous support of donors. One significant contribution was the provision of a water borehole at Kimelok school. This borehole has been crucial in supplying water for the newly planted trees, supporting their growth and increasing their chances of survival.

This initiative has fostered a stronger relationship between teachers, learners, and the community at large.

  • In July 2024, we glorified God for blessing us with a Helping Kenya Kid mission team led by Pastor Adam and Brother Brett. The team visited our Hope Centers in Kenya to spread the Gospel and collaborate with our special ministries team. Their presence was a blessing, and together we worked to share the love and message of Jesus Christ.

During their visit to the Narok Hope Centers, the mission team conducted several activities:

    1. Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children

    2. Outreach programs for men and the entire community

    3. Painting of the Kimelok Chapel

    4. Fencing of the Kimelok Hope Center

These activities, among others, helped strengthen our community and further our mission. This collaborative mission work exemplifies the power of international partnerships in spreading the Gospel and supporting local communities.
