Dignity Packets
Helping Girls Stay in School.
In rural Kenya, many girls begin missing school around Grade 5 because of monthly health needs they cannot properly manage at home. In communities where families live in mud huts without running water, even basic supplies can make the difference between staying in class and missing several days of school every month.

The quiet barrier
A Simple Need Should Not Interrupt a Girl's Education.
Many girls in rural Kenya face a challenge that is rarely talked about, but that deeply affects their education. Because their families live in mud huts without running water, they often do not have access to basic supplies — or a safe, clean way to care for their monthly health needs at home.
As girls mature, especially beginning around Grade 5, many begin missing about five days of school every month. Not because they do not want to learn. Not because their parents do not value education. But because they simply do not have what they need to stay in school with dignity.
Over a school year, those missed days quietly add up — and many girls fall behind, lose confidence, or leave school altogether.
One small, practical gift can change that.

Why Dignity Packets
A Practical Gift of Dignity.
Dignity Packets are classroom-based supplies made quietly available for girls in Grade 5 and above. Each packet contains a small supply of disposable sanitary pads and a new pair of underwear — enough to help a girl continue attending school with confidence.
The packets are placed in classroom resource closets or other discreet locations, where teachers or students can access them as needed. No lines. No forms. No embarrassment.
Reusable cloth pads were considered, but in communities without running water there is not currently a safe or sanitary way for girls to wash and reuse them at home. For that reason, Helping Kenya Kids has chosen disposable supplies as the most practical and dignified option at this time.
