Meet the Headmaster: Moses Juma
A teacher's dream that began near Kisumu now leads a school — one child at a time.
“The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”
For Moses Juma, becoming a teacher was not simply a career choice. It was a dream that began while he was growing up in a rural farming community near Kisumu, Kenya. Even as a young man, Moses imagined himself standing in a classroom, helping children learn and preparing them for the future.
One Child at a Time
After graduating from St. Mark's Teacher Training College in Embu, Moses began that journey. For the past nine years, he has devoted himself to educating Kenyan children, and today he serves as Headmaster at Kimelok Christian School. His responsibilities may include leading teachers, working with families, and helping guide the direction of the school, but Moses still measures success one child at a time.
What brings him the greatest satisfaction is watching students grow — not only academically, but into responsible, creative, and confident young people. Moses understands that education has the power to shape far more than a child's ability to pass an examination. A caring teacher can help a student discover gifts, develop character, gain confidence, and begin imagining a future that once seemed beyond reach. For Moses, being allowed to play even a small part in that journey is an honor.
Love • Patience • Trust • Honesty
These are the values that guide his leadership. They are simple but powerful, and they shape the way he leads his teachers and the way he cares for the children entrusted to Kimelok Christian School. Outside of school, Moses enjoys spending time with his family, reading, listening to music, and playing volleyball — but his heart for teaching is never far away.
Helping Prepare the Way
For Moses, every school day represents another opportunity to invest in Kenya's next generation. Today's students will one day become parents, business owners, pastors, teachers, community leaders, and professionals. And long before they step into those roles, someone must believe in them, teach them, encourage them, and help prepare the way.
At Kimelok Christian School, Teacher Moses is doing exactly that.
