A Sunday Like No Other

A glimpse of heaven in rural Kenya.

“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”

— Revelation 7:9

A Sunday Like No Other

There are moments that leave an imprint on your heart forever. Worshiping at Kimelok Hope Center is one of those moments.

From the moment we arrive, we are greeted with joyful smiles and heartfelt embraces. No one treats us like guests. Instead, we are welcomed as brothers and sisters in Christ, eager for us to worship alongside them. Before a single song is sung, I already feel like I belong.

As I step into the church and pause to take it all in, my eyes are immediately drawn to the vibrant reds, deep blues, and rich purples of the Maasai shukas—a beautiful expression of their culture and identity. Looking around the room, I'm reminded that God's family was never meant to look the same. Every face reflects another part of His creativity. Every language declares His glory in a different voice.

In Christ, our differences are not obstacles to overcome. They become part of the beautiful tapestry of His Kingdom.

The room fills with songs of praise in Maa—words I cannot understand, yet somehow I understand everything that truly matters.

Then the singing begins.

The room fills with songs of praise in Maa—words I cannot understand, yet somehow I understand everything that truly matters.

I hear hearts overflowing with gratitude.

I see eyes fixed on the Lord.

I feel the unmistakable joy that comes from wholehearted worship.

In that moment, language no longer feels like a barrier. Worship becomes the common language that unites us all.

I can't help but imagine that this is what heaven will be like—a beautiful gathering of people from every nation, tribe, people, and language, all standing before the throne of God.

When I worship in Kimelok, it feels as though the Lord gently pulls back the curtain for just a moment, allowing me to catch a glimpse of that coming day.

Then, all too soon, the service comes to an end.

As we walk outside beneath the wide Kenyan sky, I realize that while I may have traveled thousands of miles to get here, I have rarely felt more at home.

Because in Christ, family is not defined by geography, language, or culture.

It is defined by the One we worship together.

And for one unforgettable Sunday morning in rural Kenya, I experienced a small glimpse of heaven.

From Struggle to Strength: Virginia's Story

In IL-Kerin Village, a mother of four joined a church microfinance group and took a loan of 10,000 shillings. Six months later the loan was repaid, the children were in school, and Virginia had found a stronger voice in her own home.
